[HowTo] Create and upload torrents

Here's a quick guide on how to upload "real" torrents.

This explains how to upload a torrrent using the Azureus BitTorrent client.
For a uTorrent guide, click here

- Install Azureus (if you're behind a NAT box, make sure the port forwarding is working)

- Click on File menu / New Torrent....

Choose Use external tracker
Announce URL: http://www.gameupdates.org/announce.php
Now you can choose a Single file or Directory
In Comment you can type: gameupdates.org rules..  or whatever smile

Click Next

Type or choose File or Directory

Click Next

Check and remember where the file will be placed.
Uncheck if checked Open the torrent ...

Click Finish

Log in to http://www.gameupdates.org
Click on Upload / Manual torrent upload

Select Torrent file from the previous path.
Type Short description
Type Description
Choose Type

Press Do it

This is where the tricky part comes.

[h]Now you have to download the torrent from the page beacuse the torrent you have uploaded have been altered by the site. [/h]
[h]The torrent you created on your computer can't be used. [/h]

Click Download now
IE / Firefox should now ask you what to do with the file.
Click Open / Open with to open it in Azureus

The torrent should be visible in Azureus and it should report OK in Tracker status for that torrent

If you get invalid hash or something you are using the wrong torrent and need to download it from the page again.

Re: [HowTo] Create and upload torrents

Having just downloaded fakefactory's cinematic mod (at a very impressive speed I might add) I would like to add a tip to this if I may. The torrent I downloaded was a 9GB rar file with three smaller rar files inside of it. So when it's over, that's over 30GBs of files and 20mins or more of unzipping. I think it would be easier for both parties involved to forgo zipping the three smaller files into one larger file. That alone must have taken an hour or more, and it's unnecessary.
So instead of adding a zip or rar file, put them all in a folder and add that. Much less pain and suffering. I also find that uTorrent torrent creation is quite easy to do.
File>create torrent.
Add a directory or file,
type in a tracker e.g. http://www.gameupdates.org/announce.php
create and save as,
post it, download it, and open it.
Also,
It would be nice if more torrents let you choose which files you wanted to download instead of just offering one zip archive.
This is only important on downloads with multiple elements, however, such as compilations. Again, just use a folder full of files. Zip them individually using spinzip, found here. You don't need to zip .EXE and .MSI setup files, they are pre-compressed. Some .EXE files are self-extracting compressed archives, like the ones with the folder icon or the 7z icon. With smaller torrents, I generally forgo compression altogether. With a map pack, compression might be a good idea. If you are posting an ISO (for example, Command and Conquer, which is free now), don't bother with compression. People just want to download and burn, with no steps in between, and the savings are negligible.
I hope I have been at least a little bit helpful, without offending anyone.

It's even in the rules.

*Uploaded files should be in unpacked formats when possible.

I'm sorry, I was the one who uploaded the Cinematic mod. I usually try to leave the files *just* as they are so the MD5s of other sites match up with the files downloaded here.

Yes, thanks for the upload. I was waiting to play ep2 until I could play it with CM, and this one works much better than CM9 on my PC. So I'm having fun with the mod.
